Stanzas for Meditation is a series of lucid dictums pertaining to the nature of the Atman, or ‘True Self’. The stanzas are set out in a style that allows each to be contemplated in its own right, and not necessarily within the context of statements that may precede or follow. Ideally the purpose of the stanzas is that they be read one or a few at a time to prepare the mind for meditation. Stanzas for Meditation may be regarded as a direct spiritual work in the sense that it does not deal with subjects such as morality, karma, genesis, religion, visualisation, abundance, dreams or astrology - which, though regarded by many as ‘spiritual’ subjects, actually pertain to the external, or phenomenal, human condition and have no bearing upon the core reality.
